$40,000 grant aimed at lessening gun possessions in Chatham County GA

A new $40,000 grant could assist the Chatham County District Attorney’s Workplace get guns off the street. 

The grant, awarded by the Vera Institute for Justice, will fund a partnership involving the Chatham DA’s business office and its local community spouse, Savannah Feed the Hungry’s Empowerment Heart, to lessen the selection of straightforward gun possession prosecutions by 20% by diverting youthful offenders to the center’s outreach, conflict resolution coaching, and work solutions, described Chief Assistant District Legal professional Michael Edwards to the Savannah Early morning Information.  

The pre-arrest diversion plan, called “Show Us Your Guns,” targets individuals ages 16 to 25 who encounter possible firearm possession rates. Persons in the method will be referred by neighborhood and county regulation enforcement organizations. Edwards emphasised the program is not a gun buyback system.
