Nearly 90,000 fans pack Memorial Stadium for Garth Brooks concert

There was a big welcome for Garth Brooks in Lincoln. Memorial Stadium was near capacity as fans file in for the stadium’s first musical event in over three decades. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event … it’s Garth Brooks at Memorial Stadium,” Shane Mohning said. It felt just like a regular Husker game day but in addition to people wearing red, there were flannels, Garth Brooks shirts and no lack of people who “showed up in boots.””It’s great to see so many people here in Lincoln, you have people from all over the state … we love Lincoln, we love seeing people back in town,” Amanda Corcoran said.And there were friends in all kinds of places, piling into Lincoln all day long. “God bless America and Garth Brooks is going to entertain for sure,” Michael Griggs said.Five hours before the concert even started, everywhere you went was crowded. “It’s gonna be one hell of a night,” Dan Pensick said. People said it’s because it’s the first big event in so long. “An outdoor stadium event like this is definitely what needs to bring us all together,” Griggs said. The City of Lincoln and Nebraska Athletics strongly encouraged everyone to wear a face mask but KETV NewsWatch 7 saw few on the faces in the crowds.Garth fan Dan Pensick isn’t the only one who said that after missing out on going to Husker games last fall, this was the perfect event to get people excited and welcomed back into Memorial Stadium again. “We’ve got to live … this is what it is all about. I’m not going to go out without having some fun,” Pensick said.
